Indian Government has launched a distance-learning programme, named e-Gurukul for Armed Forces to keep their manpower up to date with the latest technology. Government is also planning to set up training institutes for the Armed Forces across the country.
This is the first time, video and web based virtual classroom has been created for the Armed Forces. e-Gurukul is an inter active video and web based virtual classroom. Instructors based in a central location can run classes on the backbone communication network of the Indian Army with students being in remote far-flung areas. Students can also view the live video images of the instructor by adding the element named 'Human Touch'. Even student can interact with their instructor through a chat facility or through an embedded voice application. Students can now choose their own place and time to fine tune their skills. An online test feature allows the assessment to be carried out individually.
