Pitroda urges wider application of technologies

Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission of India advocated application, which evolves technologies in various fields including education, for overall development of the country.

While delivering his key note address through tele-conferencing from Chicago to the CII hosted conference 'Comtel 2008' on theme 'Breaking Barriers, Bridging the Divide', he stated that the telecom industry had contributed over INR 100,00o million to the country's economy in 2006 and it is expected to grow about 27 percent to reach over 3.5 million by 2012. e-Agriculture will reduce procurement costs of farmers by 2.5 percent, which would result in an economic benefit of INR 6,100 million.
