HRD Ministry approves salary hike for teachers

Ministry of HRD has approved the 70 per cent pay revision recommended by the University Grants Commission's (UGC) G K Chadha committee for teachers in the state-run universities and colleges across the country. The move brings cheers amongst the higher education teaching community. The move might act as an incentive to bring more professionals in the teaching community.

The process will take some time as HRD ministry has yet to issue a formal notification for implementation of the pay hike, following which the state governments will issue an order for the decision to take effect at the university and college levels. The government will have to provide for a whopping Rs 9,000 crore annually from the exchequer for paying revised salary and allowances to over five lakh University and college teachers.
