Distance education enrolment goes up in Indian varsity

Higher enrolment for the Master of Business Administration programme has made a substantial difference to the admission tally of the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) of Madurai Kamaraj University in India this academic year.

While the enrolment figure (for all courses) was 29,000 during last year, the number of admissions this time reached nearly 32,000 with MBA and M. Phil. programmes registering a surging demand from students opting for distance education stream. The admission figure for MBA programme shot up to 3,450 this academic year from only 1,300 previous year because of some restructuring of the course. The university also saw a nearly 10 per cent rise in M. Phil. admissions from 3,600 last year to 3,900 this year.
