Punjab offers free education to Ladakh students

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday offered free education facilities to students from the Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir in order to ensure their overall development.

Addressing a group of women from eastern Ladakh who had came to Punjab under ‘Operation Sadbhavna’ of the Indian Army, Badal recalled age-old ties between Punjab and Ladakh saying both were an integral part of Maharaja Ranjit Singh empire, an official release said.

Badal said that after taking up the matter with the Jammu and Kashmir government, the Punjab government would make all out efforts to give free education to students hailing from Ladakh region to enable them the benefits of the education facilities offered in Punjab.

He said that Punjab, being a hub of quality education in the region, was duty-bound to help students from Ladakh, who would go on to work for the development of their state.
