PSUs make a beeline to recruit from IITs after two years

Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have returned to IITs after the Madras High Court lift a two-year-old recruitment ban that was ordered to provide a level-playing field to students from other engineering institutes eyeing PSU jobs.

Out of 300 companies registered so far at IIT Bombay for placement, six are PSUs, sources said. At IIT Madras, of the 263 companies registered four were PSUs. IIT Roorkee, too, saw five PSUs approaching its placement cell with request for facilitating recruitmentments.

Even as the number of start-ups coming for placements has dropped this year, core companies seemed to be flocking to the premier institutes for placements.

“A few new core companies such as Vedanta Group, Toyo Engineering, Faurecia, etc, and some new FMCG recruiters are expected to come this year,” said Tom Mathew, Professor In-charge of placements at IIT-Bombay.

“There is an increase in companies visiting for core profiles. Major recruiters include Schlumberger, RB, Bajaj Motors etc,” Bansal said.
