Schools will be assessed for environmental best practices in Ras Al Khaimah

A new grading system for schools across Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) has been introduced to encourage environmentally sustainable practices.

The RAK schools will be assessed as per the new ‘Green Rating’ system in the 2017-18 academic year.

The initiative is a joint scheme being launched by the Ras Al Khaimah Waste Management Agency and the Ras Al Khaimah Education Zone. RAKWMA is a subsidiary of the Public Works Department.

Sumaya Al Hareb, Director, the Ras Al Khaimah Education Zone, said, “Students and teachers across the Emirate will be introduced to the evaluation system.”

The  ‘Green Rating’ system aims to encourage sustainable environmental practices and spread awareness on environmental issues for development of proactive solutions to tackle the issues.

A school’s Green Rating can be improved through implementing best practices and participating in environmental activities such as clean-up campaigns. Training and volunteering in this aspect will also be rewarded.

Schools will be felicitated  annually for their achievements.
