to Move Ahead’
Robert Garnett
Lyngdoh
Meghalaya has always been
recognised for its beauty and grace, however, the
state has more reasons to be noticed. The state
has achieved a literacy rate of 63.31% according

its students up to the age of 14 and. Let's have a

The dramatic fall in the number of out of
school children to 10 million in November 2005
from the previously reported figure of 39 million
is a harbinger of good news towards the
realisation of universal primary education goal.
Widening the aspects to reach out to the education
goals further, the Ministry of Human Resources
Development, Government of India, this year has
marked the initiation of the process to formulate
the national ICT in Education Policy for India.
The Global e-Schools and Communities Initiative,
(GeSCI) founded by the United Nations ICT Task
Force, provides the strategic assistance and
demand-driven support to MHRD in this process. We,
as part of this Policy formulation process as one
other facilitator, invite our readers to submit
their suggestions, recommendations or position
papers to assist the Ministry to formulate the
National Policy. Along with this announcement, you
will also find an interview with the Minister of
Higher and Technical Education, Meghalaya, a power
presentation on the progresses of Sarva Shiksha
Abhiyan in the Indian state Karnataka, and many
more... in this edition of our newsletter.
Hope this will make an enjoyable
read.
