The announcement of the govt. of india of allocating 6 percent of GDP-Rs. 220,000 crore, towards education in the 11th five year plan is a welcome step. However, the flip side is that no Indian University, including the prestigious IIT's, has figured among world's top 200 universities. Whether this bold policy initiative will have any substantial impact on quality parameters has remained to be seen.
