The Impact of ICT on Education and the Role of the Teacher

Dr. Varalaxmi, Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for Post Graduate Studies in Pondicherry

Dr. Varalaxmi from Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for Post Graduate Studies in Pondicherry has shed light on the impact of ICT on Education and the role of the teacher. The essential benefits of ICT in schools like collection and management of a plethora of data and the use of ICT as a medium of teaching have been explored. A critical assessment of face to face and on-line teaching has been discussed. She concludes by discussing the role of the teacher and how it is affected by ICT along with methods to streamline on-line teaching and promoting collaborative learning environments.

Shree Lipi Braille Translation Software

Shree-Lipi-Braille Translation Software is a multilingual super fast translation software for the creation of Indian Language Braille books, developed by Modular InfoTech Private Limited, a Pune based multilingual software packages Development Company. The software is equipped to translate educational material in 12 Indian languages to braille along with educational material for class 10 ad 12 in braille. The product was innaugurated recently by former President Abdul Kalam Azad and aims to tackle the acute shortage of educational material for the visually impaired in our country and counter the challenges that have rendered the production of braille material in local languages extremely difficult.
