Herbalife India and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have partnered to establish the Herbalife-IIT Madras Centre of Excellence on Plant Cell Fermentation Technology at the IIT Madras Research Park. The facility, funded through Herbalife India’s CSR programme, is India’s first dedicated centre for translational research and development in plant cell-based fermentation.
The Centre of Excellence will focus on developing sustainable and scalable methods for producing herbal biomass and high-value phytochemicals for health and wellness applications. Operations are expected to commence in June 2026.
The collaboration aims to strengthen scientific research, foster industry-academia partnerships, and accelerate innovation in plant-based biotechnology. The centre will also support intellectual property creation, technology transfer, startup incubation, and student and faculty exchange programmes.
