Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has announced an increase in MTech admissions for the 2026-27 academic session through its Director’s Platinum Jubilee Scheme, an initiative introduced to mark the institute’s 75th anniversary. The move is intended to create additional opportunities for postgraduate aspirants and strengthen advanced engineering education.

The expanded intake will be available across select departments, centres, and schools, particularly in areas that support emerging technologies and interdisciplinary research. By adding more seats, the institute aims to meet the rising demand for specialised postgraduate programmes while encouraging innovation and high-quality research.

The institute has stated that admissions to the additional seats will follow the existing MTech admission process. Applicants with valid GATE scores can apply through the regular admission cycle, while eligible IIT graduates may also be considered under the institute’s current admission guidelines.

Through this expansion, IIT Kharagpur seeks to enhance access to postgraduate education, build a stronger research ecosystem, and prepare a larger pool of skilled engineers to address future technological and industrial challenges.
