The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has released a revised information brochure for GATE 2027, introducing updates to the Biotechnology syllabus and expanding the list of permitted two-paper combinations. The changes have been published on the official GATE 2027 website, while the examination schedule, eligibility criteria and other admission-related guidelines remain unchanged.
As per the revised brochure, candidates appearing for the Robotics and Automation paper will now have more flexibility in selecting a second paper. In addition to the previously available options, applicants can now pair RA with Electronics and Communication Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering, alongside Computer Science and Information Technology, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence , Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The updated guidelines also allow candidates opting for the Electronics and Communication Engineering paper to choose Robotics and Automation as an additional second-paper option. Similarly, applicants taking Instrumentation Engineering can now combine it with RA, expanding the choices available for interdisciplinary candidates.
IIT Madras has also introduced significant revisions to the Biotechnology syllabus. Two existing sections have been consolidated into a new module titled Fundamentals of Biological Engineering, while topics related to thermodynamics, material and energy balances, and transport processes have been reorganised for better academic flow.

The revised syllabus further adds new concepts under Engineering Mathematics, including Bayesian statistics and vector calculus. In the General Biology section, greater focus has been given to metabolism, immunology and microbiology. Emerging topics such as recombination-based cloning, biosensors and omics technologies have also been incorporated to reflect recent developments in biotechnology and life sciences.
Candidates planning to appear for GATE 2027 have been advised to review the updated information brochure and subject-wise syllabus before starting their preparation to ensure they are familiar with the latest examination pattern and syllabus changes.
