Delhi schools will introduce vocational education and a third language in Class 9 under revised academic rules aligned with the CBSE curriculum and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The revised framework expands the range of subjects students will study in the secondary stage, with greater emphasis on skill-based and multidisciplinary learning. Vocational education will form part of the curriculum, giving students greater exposure to practical and career-oriented skills.
The introduction of a third language is part of CBSE’s broader implementation of the three-language approach. The policy is aimed at strengthening multilingual learning while giving students exposure to India’s linguistic diversity.
The revised rules also specify assessment and promotion requirements. Students must secure at least 33% separately in internal/practical and external assessments in each of the six main subjects and at least 25% in the annual examination to qualify for promotion.

The changes are intended to make school education more flexible, skill-oriented and aligned with the objectives of NEP 2020, while preparing students for higher education and future careers.
