Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced plans to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) education from Class 6 onwards in schools across the state.
The initiative, announced during his Independence Day address, will be implemented through two programmes — AI Akshara Abhiyana and Coding Gurukula. The programmes aim to introduce students to AI and coding from an early stage and equip them with skills for the technology-driven future.

The Chief Minister said the state is also working towards establishing India’s first government-owned AI university in Bengaluru. Karnataka plans to launch AI certificate courses from January 2027 and establish AI hubs across the state.
The initiatives are part of Karnataka’s broader efforts to strengthen technology education, develop future-ready skills and prepare students to compete in the global digital economy.
