The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), in collaboration with the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), has introduced a new online Certification on Audit of Digital Systems (CADS) through the SWAYAM Plus platform. The four-month programme is designed to build specialised skills for auditing increasingly complex digital systems used by governments and enterprises.
The foundation-level certification focuses on emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, digital public infrastructure, cloud technologies, information systems and data-driven services. The programme aims to prepare professionals to assess technology-enabled systems and identify risks associated with digital operations.
Developed jointly by experts from CAG, IIT Madras and IITM Pravartak, the curriculum combines online learning with practical case studies, self-assessment exercises and real-world audit scenarios. Learners will also undergo proctored computer-based assessments as part of the certification process.

The programme is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Credit Framework (NCrF), providing recognised academic credit alongside professional training. The broader CADS programme includes six foundational domains, with each course carrying 45 hours of learning.
The initiative reflects the growing need for professionals who can understand and evaluate digital technologies as governments and businesses increasingly depend on AI, cloud infrastructure and digital platforms.
