
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have discussed expanding cooperation between Karnataka and Malaysia, with a particular focus on education, technology, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. The discussion took place during a telephone conversation in which the Malaysian Prime Minister congratulated D.K. Shivakumar on assuming office as Chief Minister.
According to D.K. Shivakumar, both leaders explored opportunities to strengthen academic and technological collaboration, leveraging the strong educational links that already exist between the two regions. Karnataka currently hosts a significant number of Malaysian students pursuing higher education, creating a foundation for deeper institutional and cultural partnerships.

The Chief Minister said there is immense potential to enhance cooperation in innovation, talent exchange, and research-driven initiatives. He also expressed his willingness to visit Malaysia and extended an invitation to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to visit Karnataka to explore opportunities across education, industry, technology, and culture.
The conversation highlights Karnataka’s growing efforts to strengthen international partnerships in higher education and technology while positioning the state as a global hub for innovation, research, and skilled talent development.
