UP, Punjab, Sikkim reopens schools

After months of deliberations, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Sikkim have reopened schools in their respective states from today. The schools have been open in these states in a graded manner for Classes 9 to 12. However, Haryana has not shared the date for reopening of schools.

As informed earlier by the Punjab government, students of classes 9 to 12 would be allowed to attend classes with parental consent today onwards. Schools would be functional for 3 hours every day However, attendance would not be compulsory for the students. The decision on the school reopening date, however, would be taken after SOPs are given by the Health Department.

The government of Punjab had also issued new SOPs for reopening of schools that guided not to permit more than 20 students per section.

As for Haryana, the students from classes 6th to 9th standard could visit their schools to consult the teachers from October 15 onwards.

A fortnight before, the Directorate of School Education, Haryana had issued a letter to district education officers, allowing for the schools to open from September 21, 2020, for classes 9-12 students. While teachers and non-teaching staff have started going to school, no regular classes are being conducted for students.

Schools in Uttar Pradesh would reopen for classes 9 to 12 students of all boards outside containment zones from October 19. Students of classes 9 to 12 will be allowed to attend the classes only after getting written permission from their parents or guardians.
