Delhi’s Govt schools witness

The number of children seeking admission in Delhi government schools have increased recently. According to Delhi Government data, a total of 2.36 lakh applications have been received from nursery to Class 12 admission for session 2021-22.

There are two ways to take admission in government schools. First, there is plan admission, which is mass transfer from feeder schools to the government schools. However, the second is non-plan admission where other students also apply for admission.

Around 1 lakh children are admitted through non-plan admissions.

“So far, 1,58,484 students have been admitted to Delhi government schools. The rest are being considered. After new admissions, total enrolment has reached 17.6 lakh for 2021-2022. It was 16.28 lakh for 2020-2021, and 15.05 lakh for 2019-2020. We do not have precise comparable data on non-plan admissions for previous years, the process was more decentralised and at school level but has become streamlined as it is online during the pandemic,” a senior official stated.

Students from private schools are largely applying to the government schools. In fact, the students earlier studying in private schools have applied for admission in government schools.
