IITs recommend Threefold Hike in Fee

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) recommended a threefold increase in the tuition fee for B.Tech students to Rs 3 lakh a year from Rs 90,000, from the academic session, which will begin this summer.

From the next year, they also suggested an aptitude test on the lines of SAT in America, for screening the students before they take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to IITs and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs).

Being the chairperson of the IIT Council, the apex decision-making body for these premier technology institutes, it is up to Smriti Irani, Human Resource Development Minister to take the final call on the issues.

The recommendations came from the IIT Council’s standing committee.
