Australia plans 2 billion for digital education

Australian Government will invest US$807million for digital education revolution on-costs under the the National Education Agreement and National Partnerships will reform education in this country and deliver education excellence in all schools to ensure every Australian child receives a world class education.

1,500 of Australia's poorest schools will be handed more than one billion dollars over the next five years, as part of a program to tackle inequality in the education system. The Council of Australian Governments will deliver critical transparency measures in a four year $42..4 billion National Education Agreement from 1 January next year.

In addition, the Australian Government will deliver a National Partnership on Teacher Quality worth US$550 million, a National Partnership on Literacy & Numeracy worth US$540 million and a National Partnership on Low SES School Communities worth US$1.1 billion over five years.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said that the new spending package including ICT in education agreed yesterday by the Council of Australian Governments would generate 133,000 jobs over four to five years.

NIIT ties with Adobe for eGuru

NIIT has partnered with Adobe to offer web and multimedia course to schools.

The curriculum is for students of Class 6 to 12, where they will be taught to use Adobe Creative Suite preparing them for careers in website designing, video editing and sound editing. The comprehensive range for schools, NIIT e-GURU comprises of 'Interactive Classrooms' for teachers, 'Math lab' and 'IT Wizard' for students, and 'Quick School' an Education Resource Planning solution for school management.NIIT and Adobe will work together to bring the benefit of multimedia learning to all the stakeholders in the schools segment, viz. students, teachers, school management, government and administrators.

NIIT plans to launch the course in the top 50-100 schools in the first year.

24X7 Guru launched in Gulf

24X7Guru has launched its Gulf and Middle East operations targeted at Indian students appearing for engineering, medicine, management and GRE examinations.

The portal also had maths and science modules for Class 3 to 10 through self-assessments. The website aims to benefit over 120,000 students in the region. Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is home to over 4.8 million expatriate Indians. CISCO announces NetRiders 2008

Cisco Asia Pacific NetRiders 2008  a skills testing competition to test the capability and skill levels of Networking Academy students is announced. It has launched the SAARC Netriders skills competition in India.

The unique feature about this year's Asia Pacific competition is that it will be conducted virtually for the first time over Cisco TelePresence and Cisco WebEx. Competing for the first SAARC NetRiders are student teams from American International University

Science promotion for rural students

A workshop was organised by the Centre for Communication and International Linkages (CCIL) in collaboration with Punjab State Council of Science and Technology (PSCST) for schools students from various districts of Punjab to promote science at higher education.

Rural India is unaware of the careers in science hence we dont see many rural schools stidents enrolling for AB.Sc in highr education. A week-long interaction with thirty meritorious matriculate students from different districts of the state was conducted and that they needed to be guided through right counsel and that workshops provided motivation to them. They were motivated to remain connected with their roots in the rural areas.

The programme was sponsored through Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India, at PAU.

Educomp to set up pvt University

Educomp Solutions is already an established player in the education sector, serving over 19,000 schools and 9.4 million learners and educators across the world is now geared to establish its brand in higher education. Gujarat Univerity MoU American University

North Gujarat University (HNGU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an American university for academic collaboration.

K.K. Shah, vice-chancellor of the Hemchandracharya , and Brian U. Adler, vice president for academic affairs at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) were present to seal the association.

The MoU will open the door for HNGU student at GSW ans the students of this university will also be getting American visas in large numbers. According to the MoU, the two universities envisage 'exchange of undergraduates and/or graduate students, faculties, joint
research activities and publications, participation in seminars and academic meetings, and exchange of academic materials and other information, and special short-term academic programmes.

Winners of the 11th annual BETT Awards will be announced in London in January next year at BETT, the world's largest technology in education show

97 % enrollment by 2015

The target set by India to achieve net enrollment rate (NER) of more than 97 % is by 2015, according to UNESCO report on Education for All (EFA) programme.

It was found that 80% of adult illiterates worldwide live only in 20 countries, 50% of them live in India, China and Bangladesh. The report revealed that of the 17 countries with most the children out of school, just three countries
