The target set by India to achieve net enrollment rate (NER) of more than 97 % is by 2015, according to UNESCO report on Education for All (EFA) programme.
It was found that 80% of adult illiterates worldwide live only in 20 countries, 50% of them live in India, China and Bangladesh. The report revealed that of the 17 countries with most the children out of school, just three countries
