ICT in basic education emphasized in Philippine Education Roadmap Conference

The Secretary of Department of Education (DepEd) of Philippines, Jesli Lapus reiterated the urgency of ICT in basic education in his keynote speech during the First National Philippine Education Roadmap Conference (PERC) at the Hotel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City.

The PERC is aligned with DepEd's efforts to build an ICT-enabled educational system. It will produce a skilled student-body and power economic development for the Philippines. The conference was jointly organised by the Philippine Computer Society (PCS), Philippine Society of IT Educators (PSITE), Philippine State Universities and Colleges Computer Education and Systems Society (PSUCCESS), and Pasay-Makati Educators and Administrators of Skills Training Association (PAMEASTA) and supported by Microsoft Phils. The conference identified challenges faced by various education sectors, enabled participating groups to share best practices in technology integration and highlighted the importance of technology in furthering education. Other speakers in the conference were Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Sectoral TVET deputy director general Milagros Dawa-Hernandez, PSUCCESS president Dr. Ofelia Carague, Microsoft Phils. Corporate Affairs director Mark Yambot, Microsoft Phils. Asia Pacific-CATM Enterprise Technology strategist John Phillips and Microsoft Phils. Academic Program manager Michelle Casio.
