A US based provider of low-cost shared computing technology, NComputing has won the bid to provide 50,000 seats for computer learning in 5,000 secondary schools across Andhra Pradesh.
The ICT school learning programme is initiated by the Central Government. The contract is worth of INR 4000 million which is expected to benefit 10 million students across the country and 1.8 million students in Andhra. NIIT Limited will be responsible for managing 2,005 of these schools in eight districts. The Rs 173-crore order bagged by NIIT includes installing desktop PCs and NComputing's low-cost shared computer systems, training the faculty and managing the learning labs for five years on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) model. The remaining schools will be operated by three other partners including Educomm.
