The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), in a landmark judgment, has allowed the Class 10 (ICSE) and Class 12 (ISC) students to appear for a compartmental examination for one subject without repeating the academic year.
This is the first time since its inception in 1958 that the board has come up with such provision for the students.
Speaking on the recent development, Gerry Arathoon, Chief Executive and Secretary of the Council, said, “We wanted to give the students a chance to retake the exam and that is why we have allowed them to appear for compartmental examination from this year”.
Though notably, both ICSE and ISC students have to mandatory clear the English paper in order to be eligible to sit for the compartment exam.
“The ICSE students would have to clear three more subjects in addition to English to be eligible for the compartment exam and the ISC students would have to clear two subjects. Only then can they appear for compartment exam,” asserted Arathoon.
The report card will mention ‘eligible for compartmental exam’ for the students who can appear for the compartment exams. The respective schools can get their students registered online for the exam from June 24- 30.
The examination will be conducted on July, 15, 16 and 17 whereas the results will be declared on August 5, 2019.
Interestingly, the board, for the first time, will issue mark sheets giving details of the marks obtained in individual subjects and sections. For example, a class 10 student will get break up of marks in history, civics, geography for social science. And similarly for English exam, there would be break up of marks scored in grammar and literature.
