In a major development, Ranjitsinh Disale of Solapur India made history. The Maharashtra teacher has bagged the coveted Global Teacher Award. The award that comes with a $1 Million or INR 7 crore prize money is a global level recognition for the contribution to the field of education.
Due to coronavirus pandemic, the event was organized virtually but yet the moment and joy it brought was unpatrolled.
Stephen Fry, renowned actor announced the prize for the $1 Million Global Teacher Award, sending a wave of happiness miles away in India as Disale jumped with joy. The Global Teacher Prize 2020 was announced in a virtual ceremony broadcast from Natural History Museum in London. Disale immediately announced that he would be sharing half of the prize money with the 9 other finalists.
Ranjitsinh Disale, a 32-year-old teacher from Paritewadi village in Maharashtra’s Solapur district emerged the winner out of the nominations of 12,000 teachers from 140 countries around the world. His work towards girl child education and innovative use of technology for rural children is worthy of inspiration and appreciation.
