The National Institute of Technology, Rourkela got a new director as K Umamheshwar Rao assumed office as the director on February 18, 2022. He succeeds Simanchalo Panigrahi, who had been appointed as interim director of the institute in October 2021. Prior to his appointment at NIT Rourkela, he served as the director of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka.
A graduate in Mining Engineering from Osmania University, K Umamaheshwar Rao worked in various mining industries for around three years.He further pursued his MTech in Mining Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University and acquired his PHD at the Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University. He has also served as a faculty at IIT Kharagpur for almost three decades.
