Oracle introduces academy programmes in polytechnic institutes of India

Oracle India has tied up with Karnataka's Directorate of Technical Education to introduce the Oracle Academy programme in 100 polytechnic institutes of the Karnataka, India.

Oracle has invested $5.4 million to provide curriculum, software and professional development in polytechnic institutes. The programme will offer the technology and business skills to polytechnic students. In the first phase of the programme, 50 polytechnic institutes will commerce teaching the Oracle Academy course curriculum in the next academic semester.

Enquire promotes online library community in UK

Enquire, as one of the People's Network service in UK is promoting a growing online community for library.

The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council MLA, on behalf of library authorities in England, has invited OCLC PICA, as technology partner-supplier to assume full responsibility for Enquire management and development for the next phase from November 1, 2006 to March 31, 2009. Enquire is making public library services online, bringing professional librarian expertise and guidance to the public at their point of need. Enquire has delivered the QuestionPoint reference management platform from technology partner OCLC PICA as well as providing the chat tools for communicating with users. QuestionPoint supports the collaborative working between librarians that Enquire needs to provide a 24 hour service. Enquire provides both a national collaborative service and the means for locally delivered services.

IBM starts KidSmart Early Learning Programme for Irelands 3-7 year old kids

IBM is starting its KidSmart Early Learning Programme in this Christmas in 43 schools across the Ireland.

IBM is donating 78 of its 'Young Explorer Centres' with its own multimedia and software to school across the county. The main aim of the computer centres, which is especially designed for 3-7 year old students to provide an effective start in learning and teaching. The donation is part of a nationwide scheme that the Dublin-based multinational company, has deployed across all 26 counties since 2000. IBM KidSmart Early Learning Centre will consist of a colourful and durable 'Little Tikes' desk and bench that seats children working in two's and three's, housing a multimedia IBM PC, award-winning educational software and a colour printer.  The centres are supported by a Teacher's Guide, a multi-lingual web site for teachers and parents (www.kidsmartearlylearning.org) and the NCTE (National Centre for Technology in Education) to encourage teachers and parents to maximise the use of ICT to teach young children.

President of India exposes opportunities of e-Learning

President of India, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam says that e-Learning will allow to access knowledge among institutions, specialists and needy students of the India.

While inaugurating the launch of science and technology museum at the S.R.V College, Bangalore, India, President Kalam told that the Internet revolution is a powerful tool for good educational initiatives in rural India. He told that e-Learning will allow seamless flow of knowledge among students. He told that the Ministry of Human Resources Development's Sakshat is the one stop educational portal for students.  He was advising students community to explore the exciting avenues from e-Learning.

Intel

    Intel Corporation is using computers and wireless technology to help 200,000 residents of Oseem, Egypt and provide vast 'knowledge resources' on the Internet.

    Intel Chairman, Craig Barrett is bringing technology to people from the Amazon to Africa. According to Craig Barrett, Intel is committed to support Egypt's leaders in accelerating access to technology, so that people can get better health care, education and work skills. Intel has installed a state-of-the-art WiMAX network to connect two public schools, a health care center on wheels, a municipal building and an e-government services kiosk. Intel has also donated and installed computers in the mobile health center and PC labs at the two schools where students and teachers can regularly connect to the outside world for the first time. Intel's new programs focused on improving education and accelerating access to computers and the Internet. Intel's Platform Development Center in Cairo has contributed to the development of the computers in the e-government kiosks and schools. All the PCs would be equipped with educational software supported by the Ministry of Education and Microsoft XP Professional Edition, Microsoft Office 2003 Small Business Edition and Learning Essentials software donated by Microsoft Corporation. Intel is also planning to train 650,000 teachers in Egypt by 2010 and teach them how to apply technology to enhance classroom learning with 60,000 teachers trained to date.     Mobile learning 2007 conference on 31 January

    Learning Technologies announced that delegates for mobile learning will come together on Learning Technologies 2007 Conference on 31 January and 1 February in UK.

    e-Learning centre of Adult Education College Bexley receives latest technology

    Soon an e-Learning centre of the Adult Education College Bexley will get the latest ICT technology.

    Recently, the e-Learning centre is opened by Local MP Derek Conway. The centre is set up for 12 students and is equipped with the latest technology and allows lectures to integrate ICT into a wide range of courses.  According to Rosie Eaglen, Head of Curriculum at Adult Education College Bexley, the Steria e-Learning suite is one of the highlights of this centre. It will encourage students to use and develop ICT skills and will be able to integrate ICT into courses. Now, lectures can interact with more students.

    PepsiCo, Netcom and Get select Mohive’s e-Learning publishing system

    PepsiCo and leading Norwegian communications companies Get Cable & Broadband and Netcom mobile telecoms have selected Mohive's e-Learning publishing system.

    Mohive's e-Learning publishing system is already used to manage enterprise quality e-Learning programs for companies like BBC, Charles Schwab, Hornbach, Promina Group and If Insurance. All three companies will use the system to implement sales and production training enterprise wide. First company, PepsiCo has selected Mohive's e-Learning publishing system to create e-Learning for their concentrate division, including their 3rd party bottlers globally. Netcom, Norway's second leading mobile telecommunications company, has selected Mohive's e-learning publishing system to create training for their customer service team as well as educating their sales channel on product and sales campaigns. Get, a leading broadband and cable provider, has selected Mohive's system to deliver a variety of e-Learning for internal use.

    AQA and NCC launch the ICT teaching and learning portal

    The Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) announced that the company has formed partnership with the National Computing Centre (NCC) to build a unique based information portal for schools and colleges.

    AQA announced that NCC will provide all relevant materials for a business to exploit Information Technology. The Portal will offer a single integrated ICT resource to support both the teaching and study of ICT and the business management side of a school or college. The portal; is mainly targeted for are four communities like teaching staff, students, IT Technicians and Business managers. Students would be able to explore and understand the different purposes for which ICT is used and gain an appreciation of ICT roles and available career paths through NCC materials. Portal content would be a ready resource as the basis for relating broader knowledge and understanding to 'real-life' business contexts.

    C-DAC & Enable M offers you LILA technology to learn Indian languages on mobile phone

    Pune based C-DAC has joined with Mumbai based mobile technology company, Enable M to develop a technology for learning Indian languages through artificial intelligence or on mobile phones.

    The technology named, Learn Indian Language through Artificial Intelligence (LILA) provides the facility to read and listen to the sound of Devanagiri, just as it is used in Hindi. LILA has also ability to understand the word format and pronunciation of words in Hindi as well as vocabulary for commonly used words and look up Hindi-English dictionary. The Hindi sentence structure patterns are exposed with a relative English version. There are exercise and practice sessions also available for users to make LILA as user friendly. It also includes narrative sessions of lesion with video clips. Further, the translation of Hindi sentence can be seen on the screen. The LILA Hindi Prabodh is already available on mobile handsets through Multimedia cards (MMC). According to spokesperson of C-DAC, the LILA is easy way of learning Hindi through multimedia (Audio and Video interface).
