Preschools Redefining the Education Roadmap of India

With the kids’ initial phase of life being viewed as crucial to shaping up their personality and life, preschools are increasingly viewed as highly significant to redefining the education roadmap of the country.

The latest issue of our digitalLEARNING magazine is, therefore, dedicated to “Preschool Learning”, which seeks to explore the finest in the Indian preschool industry.

In the light of rapid growth of the preschool segment, our latest issue of the magazine has come up with India’s Top Preschools’ ranking for the second time.

Through “India’s Top Preschool Ranking 2017”, we have endeavoured to explore various dimensions of the preschool segment. This year’s ranking is also intended to create an integrated and comprehensive database of diverse, high quality early childhood education and care services.

The latest issue also carries the conference report of the 10th Elets World Education Summit (WES) Delhi, a confluence of eduleaders of the Indian and global education system. Jamia to offer PG courses for Army personnel

The Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMIU) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Army under which the university will offer graduate and post-graduate programmes to Indian Army personnel through distance learning.

Vice-Chancellor Talat Ahmad and Adjutant General, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence, Lt. Gen. Ashwani Kumar, signed the MoU to facilitate the courses.

“The University has agreed to recognise the in-service courses run by the Army. This would facilitate admission of defence personnel in second or third year Graduation/Post Graduation/Doctorate programme through the medium of distance learning,’ said Ministry of Defence in an official statement.

This help the soldiers to enhance their academic qualification for a better future.

IGNOU launches Gyandarshan to impart knowledge through ICT

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched Gyandarshan channel for imparting knowledge through Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and social media World over.

The channel of IGNOU was launched through webcasting along with the IGNOU Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC) page on Facebook. The channel and page will help the university to make its programme available on the mobile phones too.

According to IGNOU Vice Chancellor Prof Ravindra Kumar, it is a major step for implementing the education through electronic media.

“We are digital and open university now. There is no distance between us and our learners,” he added.

“We will use this platform as a promotional tool for our country’s cultural awareness and empowerment on a variety of themes on issues and challenges related to societal development, cultural heritage, environment etc,” Prof Kapil Kumar, Director, Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC), IGNOU, said.

“This channel will also serve the Indian Diasporas world over, not only to promote Indian culture but also enlightening them with contemporary achievements of India. Similarly, the EMPC FB page will be providing regular updates on Indian education and will be a major source of feedback from the learners from all over the world,” he added.

The practice will not only help the working professionals but also help Armed forces personnel to continue their studies while guarding the borders of the country. Kumar also stated that the armed forces save our democracy and freedom and IGNOU is bound to facilitate their educational development.

IGNOU had already started GyanVani interactive radio counseling programmes through both broadcast as well as webcasting.

IISc Bengaluru partners Infosys foundation to broaden research activities

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Infosys Foundation to enhance infrastructure and broaden research activities at the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research (CIDR) at the Institute.

According to a statement released from the foundation, A grant of Rs 5 crore will be awarded to researches, and training of 25 faculty members and 250 students at the institute. The MoU will also help in creating awareness about infectious diseases.

IISc is a public university for research and higher education in all science and engineering disciplines.

“This association will facilitate an interdisciplinary approach, with a focus on research about infectious diseases, leading to the development of new drug targets, drug delivery systems and novel diagnostic tools,” said the statement.

Speaking about the association, Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murty said, “With this MoU, Infosys Foundation aims to set milestones in the area of research of infectious diseases. We will focus on motivating researchers to perform cutting-edge research, as well as train them to raise awareness about infectious diseases.”

India’s premier institute has also entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Central Ground Water Board (CGWB)for ‘Development of ground-water flow models and preparation of aquifer management plans for parts of Karnataka’.

Gems organises summit to boost Arabic, Islamic studies teaching

GEMS Education has recently hosted a conference with an objective to improve the quality of Arabic and Islamic studies across its network of schools.

GEMS EducationThe conference, held at GEMS International School, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), brought over 150 education stakeholders including principals and heads of Arabic and Islamic studies departments. The participants have discussed ways of enhancing student outcomes.

The one-day conference has also witnessed various workshops and opportunities to share best practices to teach Arabic and Islamic studies.

The workshops were held in partnership with Teacher Learning and Leadership for All (TELLAL) and the London Centre for Arabic Language Training (Sharek Centre). The conference is expected to strengthen GEMS Education’s commitment to the UAE’s vision to improve Arabic learning and Islamic studies.

TELLAL, the UAE’s licensed teacher-training institute, provides support for Arabic, Islamic and social studies teachers in the GEMS network, through training and professional development opportunities.

NSDC collaborates with Deakin University for impact assessments and data analytics

National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Deakin University, Australia, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop and foster academic links.

NSDCThe collaboration will be on projects for conducting data analytics and impact evaluation studies in the skills ecosystem. These projects would bridge the skill gap and enhance quality training institutions across the country. The MoU is for duration of five years and exchanged between Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, NSDC and Kerrie Parker, CFO, Deakin University.

Under this partnership, Deakin University will be a knowledge partner for NSDC towards developing an Impact Assessment (IA) and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) framework for its projects.

Deakin University will also be responsible for development of framework and methodology for data analytics and review of the existing data for generating insights. The Australian university may also undertake studies, analyses on datasets available with NSDC or data jointly gathered between both.

The two organisations will jointly organise workshops, seminars, conferences etc for knowledge sharing on various researches, analytics and impact assessment aspects.

Speaking on the partnership with Deakin University, Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, NSDC said, “NSDC aims to promote employable skills across the country. Deakin University, being one of the foremost institutions in Australia providing real-world expertise and practical skills, will work with us on data analytics to integrate business-critical information into our workflows.  We believe this partnership would strengthen the process of skill development in India.”

The MoU signing ceremony was followed by a workshop on Impact Evaluation and Data Analytics by Deakin University, Australia, wherein sessions were conducted on Data Analytics, Demand Aggregation and on Impact Evaluation.

Kuvempu University to launch ‘Pariksha Mitra’ for admissions

State-run Kuvempu University is all set to launch Pariksha Mitra – An online system for submitting applications and paying fees, in October 2017, according to University officials.

The new system facilitates applicants seeking marks sheet, degree certificate, convocation certificate, provisional pass certificate, transcript marks card, corrections in the marks card and issuance of duplicate marks card can be submitted online. The comprehensive information on filling the application will be displayed on the website.

Kuvempu University is an affiliating University established in 1987. It is a State University recognised by UGC under 2(f) and 12(b).  It has 99 affiliated colleges. These include 3 constituent colleges, 30 Government-aided colleges, 65 unaided private colleges, and one college under the direct control of the University, spread over the two districts offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Among them, 18 colleges offer B.Ed programme; 35 colleges have been assessed and accredited by NAAC; and 47 colleges are admitted to 2(f) and 12(b).

According to the university officials, students pursuing education in regular and distance mode can use the online system. The Pariksha Mitra service will provide the students relief from the ordeal of visiting the campus and queuing up there for these services.

Indian Aviation Academy’s new campus inaugurated

Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Thursday inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Aviation Academy (IAA)  in New Delhi.

The new world class campus aims to enhance and augment its training and hostel capabilities to more than double.

The Minister said, “With its enhanced strength, the IAA academy would go a long way in meeting the growing demand for skilled manpower in the aviation sector.”

The Indian Aviation Academy was constituted under the aegis of National Institute of Aviation Management and research Society (NIAMAR) on 22nd July, 2010 as a joint training academy of Airports Authority of India, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The academy aims to provide training and conduct research; consultancy services in various areas of the aviation sector, like airports and aviation management, safety regulations, security and other related areas.

A large number of professionally skilled and trained manpower are required to operate, manage and maintain the future international air transport system. “The New IAA campus has been equipped to meet the skilling and training needs of the future,” the Ministry said in an official statement.

R.N. Choubey, Secretary, Civil Aviation said, “The Institute Director and faculty should regularly assess the manpower needs of the aviation industry and keep updating the syllabus accordingly to make the courses relevant.”
