Intel has signed an agreement with Allama Iqbal Open University of Pakistan (AIOU) to bridge the digital divide by equipping AIOU students with 7,00,000 Intel-powered classmate personal computers by 2009. .
The main aim of this agreement is provide global digital economy to students of Pakistan. The university is planning to create digital content and transition to on-line learning methodologies and induct ICT at all levels. Intel will facilitate the engineering and validation of classmate PCs for the higher education segment, and through local industry will make available PCs for students of AIOU including sales, distribution and post-sale support. AIOU and Intel will also seek to establish competitive finance options for students purchasing the classmate PC. The main objectives of AIOU's objectives is to equip its students and academia with the tools needed to acquire and impart essential 21st century digital literacy.
