This has come as an encouraging news for the Indian sports fan who felt dejected due to the various controversies shrouding the upcoming Commonwealth Games, as this presnets to them an opportunity by the unstable state of Jharkhand to know how a mega sporting event can be utilized for a long term sporting gain.
A detailed project report for the conversion of the National Games facility into a sports university has been submitted by the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) to the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry. Some of the suggestions included in the plan are opening Kendriya Vidyalayas near the proposed sports university in order to build greater linkages with schools. This would help in identifying talented students and provide them training from a young age for careers in sports. The Jharkhand state government and the CUJ have been very keen for setting up the sports university by utilizing the stadiums and infrastructural facilities of the National Games that are to be held in December.
