GER stands at 18.8%, shows HRD ministry data

According to a conditional data of Higher Education Survey the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) stands at 18.8%. The data, , released by the ministry if HRD also reveals that there is a considerable difference between male and female GER with male GER at 20.9% and 16.5% for females.

With the GER target for 2020 set at 20%, a more than 18% is quite significant. The survey includes data from 448 of 621 universities and more than 8,000 out of 27,468 colleges.

Even as the GER figure for SC students comprise 10.2% of total student enrollment and STs are at 4.4%, the OBCs have gone up to 27.1%. Even Women OBC students comprising of 26.8% of OBC enrollment are at par with their male counterparts as they.

As per the survey, regular mode of higher education is popular with 82.7% students whereas just over 17% students are enrolled in distance mode. Also, approximately 57% of colleges are under private management and 22% were in the government sector.
