
From the coming academic session 2017-18, the government medical colleges of Tamil Nadu will at least have 150 additional seats as the Medical Council of India (MCI) has cleared decks for a college in Pudukottai.
According to Health Secretary, J Radhakrishnan, the Union Health Ministry is expected to communicate with state health department before MBBS counselling begins. Until now, there were 2,750 MBBS seats in 21 medical colleges, including four in Chennai. In 2016, counselling was held for 2,318 seats as 15% of seats were given up for the national quota.
In Mullur village of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, foundation for a college sanctioned in August 2015 was laid in March 2016. The college is expected to be set up in 127-acre plot at the village.
