In a new move, HRD Ministry has decided to give reservation to OBC category candidates under the new rules for admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country.
The new reservation rules are to be implemented from this session.

At the same time, in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, 27 percent reservation will be given to OBC candidates. The total reservations for both the low and these caste categories cannot be more than 50 percent.
According to an official, the move will promote quality education among the rural students in the district within OBC students.
SC-ST and OBC students will be allotted seats as per ‘draw’ for reserved seats under Right to Education in the first phase as per the rules of the Ministry related to admission. Whereas, in the second phase, seats will be reserved for students in cases of transfer of central government employees and in the third phase seats will be reserved for students of PSU employees.
