UGC permits 900 autonomous colleges to start online courses

UGC permits 900

New Delhi

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted permission to 900 additional colleges to provide online degrees to students. This decision will open up new learning opportunities for the students. The decision was also made keeping in view the National education policy 2020, which promotes online education. Students will be able to get their degrees remotely with the help of online education.

Before this order, only universities were allowed to have online courses. Now, around 900 autonomous colleges, which have National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) 3.26 grade, are allowed to offer online degrees and courses. The eligibility criteria for students to enroll in online degree courses includes being Class 12 and undergraduate, qualified for taking admission to UG and PG courses.

Students would be evaluated through online proctored mode or a computer-based test. The students need to maintain 75% minimum attendance in the online degree programmes.

The online programmes will broaden the education horizon for students as well as promote flexibility. UGC is expected to share a detailed framework in March 2022.
