Eng. Mohammed Mahnashi, President & Advisor at Saudi Electronic University (SEU) in Saudi Arabia, discussed the use of educational technologies and their significance in education during his presentation at 27th Elets World Education Summit in Malaysia. He highlighted the various benefits of employing technology in education, including accelerating the learning process, simplifying education delivery, and reducing costs.

Mahnashi categorized educational technology into two perspectives: component-based and application-based. Component-based technologies included hardware, software, connectivity, content, data analytics, and communication tools. Application-based technologies encompassed online learning, blended learning, personalized learning, assessment, feedback, professional development, and more.

He emphasized the importance of considering why educational technologies are used and how they can be applied effectively. He presented statistics on the expected growth of educational technology spending, particularly in areas like AR/VR, AI, and robotics.

Mahnashi then shared insights from his work at Saudi Electronic University, which had already adopted blended learning. He discussed the challenge of implementing digital transformation in an institution that was already technologically advanced. He stressed the need to reevaluate the entire educational journey and identified various use cases for educational technology, such as smart advisors, digital identity, reception robots, campus navigation, and smart parking.

He explained how Saudi Electronic University reshaped the educational journey by incorporating educational technology into different stages, from attraction and admission to graduation. He highlighted adaptive learning, virtual labs, simulation, attendance management, and smart recruitment advisors as key components of this transformation.

While discussing the challenges, Mahnashi acknowledged the complexities of implementing educational technology, including integration with existing systems, ensuring efficient use by students, and the continuous need for enhancements based on user demands.

He expressed optimism about the future of educational technology, anticipating further evolution and personalization to meet individual learning needs in higher education.
