At its third meeting in Beijing, the Global University Association Forum (GUAF) reached key agreements on advancing artificial intelligence (AI) in education, fostering global mobility through academic equivalence, and promoting sustainable campuses. One of the forum’s significant takeaways was the call to expand higher education’s focus from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to STEAM Education, integrating the arts to equip students for 21st-century challenges.
India will host the next GUAF conference in 2025, with Vinay K Pathak, President, and Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), formally receiving the forum’s flag at the event’s conclusion on Saturday.
Pathak delivered a keynote address on “University Technology Transfer: Case Sharing,” highlighting successful technology transfer initiatives. He also presented a session titled “AI: A Transformative Force in Education.”
Mittal engaged in various discussions aimed at strengthening collaborations between Indian and global universities and led a session on “Educational Innovation via Artificial Intelligence.”
On the sidelines of the forum, research collaboration agreements were signed between Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, and several Chinese universities, providing students from both nations with enhanced global opportunities.
