Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan hosted a high-level delegation from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) on Sunday to discuss establishing an offshore campus of the renowned US institution in India. Led by JHU President Ronald J. Daniels, the 12-member delegation included representatives from the Gupta Klinsky India Institute (GKII), a key initiative aimed at fostering collaboration between JHU and Indian partners through research, education, policy, and practice.

The meeting revolved around strengthening academic and research collaborations between JHU, a premier private research university based in Baltimore, Maryland, and leading Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Discussions also highlighted the transformative impact of such partnerships in innovation, entrepreneurship, and global knowledge exchange.

Pradhan commended JHU’s commitment to deepening ties with Indian HEIs and emphasized the opportunities presented by India’s National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), which encourages international academic collaborations. “This collaboration holds immense potential to drive innovation and entrepreneurship among students of both nations,” Pradhan remarked.

The delegation expressed keen interest in fostering dual and joint degree programs, enhancing two-way mobility for students and faculty, and pursuing research in emerging areas like artificial intelligence, data science, and advanced technologies. The meeting was attended by Higher Education Secretary K. Sanjay Murthy and senior officials from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of External Affairs.

The delegation included notable JHU administrators such as Fritz W. Schroeder, Senior Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations; Alexander Triantis, Dean of the Carey Business School; and Judd Walson, Chair of the Department of International Health at the Bloomberg School. Prominent Indian-origin faculty members like Amita Gupta, Co-Founder of GKII, and Mathuram Santosham, Professor of Pediatrics and International Health, also participated in the discussions.
