To increase enrolments in government-run schools, the Telangana State School Education Department has announced a state-level campaign titled Acharya Jayashankar Badi Bata, scheduled to take place from June 6 to June 19.
The drive aims to enhance community involvement, track down children who are not attending school, and get institutions ready for the upcoming academic session.
School Education Director Narasimha Reddy has shared comprehensive guidelines along with a detailed schedule for the campaign. As per his instructions, all maintenance and repair work in schools must be wrapped up by May 31. Additionally, schools are to be cleaned and festively decorated to create a welcoming environment for students when classes resume on June 12, the end of summer vacation.
The ‘Acharya Jayashankar Badi Bata’ campaign seeks the active participation of local leaders, parents, and community members. Schools will also conduct Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) to foster better engagement with families.
The 2-week campaign has each one of its days scheduled for specific activities to ensure the best result possible.
The first of the two weeks involves a large-scale Gram Sabha, where elected representatives and parents will gather and discuss what is the plan for the coming days. The next few days will involve going door-to-door to identify kids who are not currently enrolled in school. Awareness drives will also be conducted through the distribution of informational pamphlets and visits to Anganwadi centers. Efforts will be made to enroll children with special needs and school dropouts in nearby schools or Bhavita centres. The first week will then be concluded with a review of the activities conducted during the first leg of the campaign.
The second week will start with the school officially reopening. Refurbishment efforts will be inaugurated under the Amma Adarsha School Committees. Students will receive textbooks, notebooks, and uniforms. This will be followed by a day that will feature Aksharabhyasam (a literacy initiation ceremony) and Bala Sabha (a student gathering) with parents and local dignitaries in attendance. There will also be celebrations around Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), and the Learning Improvement Program (LIP) will include quizzes, student exhibitions, and classroom decoration.
The focus of the next few days will be on integrated education and promoting education for girls. Students will pledge to stand against child marriage and harassment. Parents and community members will be invited to observe digital learning setups and modern school infrastructure. Students will be educated on the importance of plant care. The second week and the campaign as a whole will conclude with student sports competitions.
