NTA: Students can use JEE Main 2020, NEET 2020 admit card as passes

In an official statement, National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General has mentioned that the candidates from COVID-19 Containment Zones can use their JEE Main and NEET 2020 Admit Cards as passes. He also added that the invigilators and other officials who will be assigned for the NEET and JEE Main 2020 examinations can also use their appointment letters as passes on the day of the examination.

With questions raised regarding the precautionary measures taken for the examinations, the NTA Director has stated that the number of examination halls and invigilators have been doubled this year in order to endure that none of the students is infected by the disease.

Students appearing for the entrance examinations are required to reach the examination centres at different times in order to eliminate the possibility of overcrowding. Inside the examination room as well the students will be seated at alternate seats in order to maintain social distancing.

The agency has increased the number of seats from 570 to 660 for the JEE Main examination and 3,843 from 2,546 for the NEET Examination. Along with these, in case of the JEE Main exams, the number of shifts for the exams have been increased from 8 to 12 while the number of candidates per shift has been reduced to 85,000 from 1.32 lakh. The number of candidates per room has also been reduced from 24 to 12.

Haryana govt inks deal with M3M foundation to provide online classes to students

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Department of Employment, Haryana and the M3M Foundation in order to facilitate the online preparation, training and mentoring for the government jobs for the students. The MoU was signed between Director Department of Employment Haryana – Seema Kaushik and Trustee, M3M Foundation at Haryana Niwas in Chandigarh – Dr Payal Kanodia.

The MoU has been signed between the two in order to build and strengthen the partnership between both the institutions in order to enable the students to access quality preparations for the entrance examinations for Government jobs. The MoU has been signed with an aim for the Haryana state government to link one approximately 1 lakh candidates to government jobs within and outside the state in the next two years.

Other dignitaries present at the occasion included Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala along with the Minister of State for Employment – Anoop Dhanak, Rakesh Gupta – Department of Employment, Haryana, Additional Secretary to Department of Employment – Shri T. C. Gupta, Haryana, and Aishwarya Bansal, Trustee, M3M Foundation.

With the help of the MoU a programme will be conducted to select 50,000 candidates for the online training based on the performance of the candidates previously in the government examinations in the state.

NTA releases NEET 2020 admit card

National Testing Agency (NTA) has released NEET 2020 admit card on its official site ntaneet.nic.in. In order to download NTA NEET admit card, candidates need to enter the required credentials along with a security pin.

An additional set of guidelines to be followed candidates has been mentioned in the NEET 2020 admit card. Admit card is the important document to carry at the examination centre as without it no one will be allowed to appear for the entrance exam.

The total number of medical aspirants appearing for NEET 2020 exam has grown significantly this year. For 2020 session of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test 2020, a total of 15,97,433 candidates have registered for the exam. This number is higher as compared to last year’s number which stood at 15,19,375.

-Enter NEET 2020 application number, date of birth, security pin and then click on the ‘Submit’ button

-NEET admit card 2020 displays on the screen.

Delhi HC asks DU to reconsider 70pc attendance exam norm

In a major development, Delhi High Court in an order passed asking the University of Delhi, not to expect 70% attendance from students as eligibility criteria in order to appear for the exam.

DU cannot expect 70 per cent minimum attendance in exams while it taught only 40 per cent of the prescribed study period, says Delhi High Court.

In the order passed by the bench, Delhi High Court noted that Delhi University cannot expect students to have 70 per cent minimum attendance to sit for exams if it was not taking classes for the entire period prescribed for a course.

The court passed the judgement while hearing a petition filed by a law student, who was not allowed to appear for his first semester exams last year on medical grounds. The petition was being heard by the Delhi High Court Bench comprising of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan.

The order said that “You cannot say students have to have 70 per cent minimum attendance while you teach only 40 per cent of the prescribed study period.” Notice Issued to Centre, Bar Council of India In addition to asking university to relax the 70% attendance rule after evaluating the case, the Delhi High Court has also issued notices to the Central Govt and Bar Council of India, seeking their reply.

Last year, a single judge bench had dismissed the petition which sought waiver of shortage of attendance and allowing him to sit for his first semester exams.

NTA plans more exam centres, staggered entry-exit during NEET, JEE Exams

Increasing the number of examination centres, alternate seating plan, fewer candidates per room and staggered entry and exit are among the steps the National Testing Agency (NTA) will take for safely conducting medical and engineering entrance exams — NEET and JEE in September.

These steps have been introduced to ensure adherence to social distancing norms at the centres in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, even as chorus grew for postponing of the crucial exams.

Officials in the Ministry of Education, however, asserted the exams will be conducted as per schedule.

While the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is scheduled from September 1-6, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is planned on September 13.

“The number of examination centres have also been increased from 570 to 660 (for JEE Main) and 2,546 to 3843 (for NEET). While JEE-Mains is a computer-based test, NEET is a pen-paper test,” the NTA said in a statement.

“Additionally, in case of JEE-Mains, the number of shifts has been increased from the earlier 8 to 12, and the number of candidates per shift has been reduced from earlier 1.32 lakh to 85,000 now,” it said.

For ensuring social distancing outside the examination hall, the entry and exit of candidates has been staggered, it added.

“Adequate arrangements have also been made outside the examination centres to enable candidates stand with adequate social distancing while waiting. Candidates have also been issued advisory guiding them about ‘Dos and Don’ts’ for proper social distancing,” it added.

There have been demands from several students and parents to further postpone the entrance exams in view of increasing coronavirus cases.

JEE Advanced 2020 registrations to start from September 11

In the light of Corona crisis, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has released a revised version of the brochure for JEE Advanced 2020. Details regarding the process of examination and admission along with the new schedule is available at the official website jeeadv.ac.in.

The process of JEE Advanced will commence after the result of JEE Main is announced tentatively by September 10, 2020.

JEE Advanced registration date is September 11 to 16. The admit card for the examination will be released in online mode on September 21, 2020. IIT Delhi has also notified that JEE Advanced exam date 2020 is now September 27.

IIT Delhi has also introduced some changes in various particulars of JEE Advanced exam. During registration, candidates will now have to compulsorily select eight cities as choice of exam cities. The number of exam cities have also been increased by the authorities.

Previously, the number of exam cities were 171 and now has been raised to 212. Foreign centres have been removed from the list. Eligibility Relaxation for JEE Advanced Earlier, the Ministry of Education had revised the eligibility criteria for admissions on the basis of JEE Advanced 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Candidates who have passed 12th standard irrespective of any percentage are now eligible to take admission in IITs.

School paints walls to provide lessons to poor students

A school in Maharashtra’s Solapur city has found a new way of imparting education to students who are unable to afford smartphones for online classes. The school painted walls of houses in the vicinity of schools with lessons from textbooks.

Over 300 outer walls of various houses in Nilamnagar area of Solapur have been painted with simplified lessons from textbooks of various subjects of Classes 1 to 10.

Nearly 1,700 students from nearby areas study in the primary school and its secondary section Shri Dharmanna Sadul Prashala. Many students come from poor families as their parents are labourers, mostly working in textile units of the district are studying in the govt school.

The lessons painted on the walls include introduction to letters, numbers, word and sentence formation, grammar, mathematical formulas, general knowledge and lessons from various other subjects. The school is also conducting online classes for students who have smartphonesor other gadgets at home.

Nearly 1,700 students, mostly from Nilamnagar, are enrolled in the primary and secondary sections of the school. The lessons painted on the walls are not only benefitting them, but also students from two to three other schools located nearby.

Pokhriyal: National Bal Bhawan to start a national level award for children

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, on Tuesday, directed the National Bal Bhavan, an autonomous institute, to organize national awards for children.

The minister said that the awards will motivate and encourage the children’s overall development.

Pokhriyal was speaking at the review meeting for the National Bal Bhavan. Pokhriyal, through his official social media account, said: “I advised the officials to start felicitating children by organizing ‘Children’s Awards’ at a national level to motivate them and encourage their overall development, creative energy, and positive growth.”

The minister said that he also reviewed the grants, expenditures and other programmes at the institute. Pokhriyal said : “I looked into the details of grants or expenditures of National Bal Bhavan and the proposal of three years programmes (2020-22).I also reviewed the posts, and vacancies of National Bal Bhavan and multiple activities lined up for 2020.”

Nishank said that National Bal Bhawan is a great platform for our children to learn various creative activities and we should expand its activities in regional centres also so that more children get benefit of this platform. He said that in order to promote creative activities among children National Bal Bhawan should start a national level award for children and directed officials to make a plan on this matter.

Bihar govt inaugurates new Higher Secondary schools in 3,304 panchayats

To provide education to all, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated a number of new Higher Secondary Schools in as many as 3,304 panchayats in the state. Out of the 8.386 panchayats in the state 5,082 have higher secondary schools and the remaining 3,304 have now been covered.

The Chief Minister stated that studies for class 9 students will begin in the schools in the 2020-21 academic year. The government had earlier announced that the Higher Secondary Schools will be opened in all the panchayats of the state by April.

The spread of education among the girls will result in a drop in the fertility rate in the state is the focus of the state govt.

The Chief Minister while referring to a study conducted stated that the fertility rate in the state has been found to be on par with the national average or even lower among women who have studied until class 12.

The state government has recruited around 3.5 lakh teachers and decided to provide them with several benefits as well.

The Bihar state government announced a range of benefits for the 3.5 lakh contractual teachers appointed by the Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies. The chief minister stated that the government has decided to implement a 15 percent salary hike for the teachers from April 1, 2021.
