Annual Status of Education Report 2019 released; Check key findings here

Annual-Status-of-Education-Report

The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2019 has been released by Pratham – a well known not-for-profit non-governmental organisation. The report features several insights and observations on the state of education in the country and is based on data collected from 596 districts by surveying 546,527 students from 354,944 homes.

According to the report, it has been observed that parents prefer private schools for the education of boys and government schools for girl students when it comes to primary education. Furthermore, in the age-group of 6-8 years, around 61.1 percent girls are enrolled in government schools as compared to 52.1 percent boys. Conversely, 47.9 percent boys are enrolled in private schools as compared to 39 percent girls. Overall, 30.9 percent of students in the age group of 6-14 were in private schools in 2018; the figure was 30.6 percent in 2016 and 30.8 percent in 2014.

It has been found that students in elementary school (Classes 1-8) are not learning well enough. For instance, only 50.3 percent students in Class 5 can read text meant for Class 2 students.

Although there has been some improvement in learning levels of students in Classes 3 and 5, in 2018, as compared to the previous five years, the improvement has not been visible at higher levels such as among students of Class 8.

The deficit across government and private schools is still there. For example, 40 percent of Class 8 students in government schools can do simple division, while the figure is 54.2 percent in private schools.

However, improvement has been observed in some states. For instance, the reading ability among Class 5 students in Kerela has increased about 10 percent in 2018 as compared to 2016. In Himachal Pradesh, the growth has been 8 percent, while in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, the growth has been near 7 percent.

Based on ASER 2019, Pratham has also made some recommendations to improve school-level education in the country.  The recommendations include expansion of Anganwadi centres, enrolling students in primary grades at the right age, and undertaking curriculum development based on age groups, among others.

CBSE 10th, 12th boards 2020: Important preparation tips

CBSE-10th-12th-boards-2020

With board examinations approaching, the stress level of students appearing for them is also increasing. However, students appearing for class 10th and 12th board examination 2020 should remember that it is just like any other examination and there is nothing to worry about.

Yes, it’s true that these marks will decide your future but this is not the end. Every student has something unique and they just need to focus on their strengths rather than weakness.

To help you overcome your fears, here are some tips you should follow to do a systematic, smart and on-time preparations for the examination:

1. Sample Papers of previous years

It is very important for students to go through the previous year’s question paper and sample papers. This will in-turn help them to know where they are lagging behind and work on it.

They should also make a list in place, to know which topic to read first on a priority basis to crack the examination. This will help them to divide their time of preparation for examination as per the topic systematically.

2. Prepare your own notes

With back to back examination, it is very difficult for students to read through all the lessons/ chapters. It is advisable to make chapter wise short notes which will help you to revise and also finish your course on time. These notes also come handy when you are in doubt before entering the examination hall and you want to have one final look at the topics.

3. Underline important topics

Students tend to highlight everything while reading a chapter. So, it is highly advisable to highlight only those lines and topics which make sense and holds importance. This will help in doing last minute read-through of the chapters.

4. Textbooks are the priority

When it comes to practice, students tend to attempt all the questions available in all the reference books rather than mastering the topics of the textbook.

You must always try to focus on being clear in your concepts in the prescribed textbooks which will help you clear any questions given in the other reference books.

5. Don’t over exhaust yourself

Board examination can be very stressful but if you want to top the exams, make sure that you schedule your study time smartly.

Maintain a balance between heavy subjects and lighter subjects. Make sure you take a break either by listening to music, watching something motivational or something of your interest. This will help you break the monotony and help you concentrate more.

Remember!! Your brain needs rest too.

Our population of 130 crores has a maximum number of youth which also makes us the youth capital of the world. It is the power of the nation’s skilled youth which will drive India to become a $5 trillion economy if its capabilities are channelized in the right direction. Gujarat is at the forefront of employment generation in the entire country and has created 86 percent of the total employment. Training is required according to the new technologies and trends so that the youth of Gujarat can become job providers from job seekers. Keeping in mind the pace of development in Gujarat, IIS is a great step in the direction of skill development. The institute will contribute significantly to realizing the ‘New India’ concept of Prime Minister and will extend all possible support to this institute on behalf of the state government.”

Ratan Tata, Former Chairman of Tata Sons, said “The institute will offer students the latest in training facilities and on-the-job training. Students will be exposed to modern training methodology and tools including simulators, virtual learning and augmented learning platforms. Investing in skill development is imperative. As we know what are the skills required for the future of jobs, it is time to build reskilling, upskilling and deep-skilling as part of our country’s growth strategy. The laying of the foundation stone for IIS Gandhinagar is but one step closer to achieving that. I only hope that if I was twenty years younger, I would have more actively participated in this landmark vision. This vision of skilling the youth of the country in market-relevant skills is surely taking India forward while making a mark on the global landscape”
