NIIT.tv Registers Students from 140 Countries in 100 Days

NIIT.tv, a disruptive innovation by NIIT, has completed 100 days of launch with an overwhelming response. Within this short period of its inception, NIIT.tv has registered students from more than 1500 cities, and over 140 countries.

In the initial phase, over 20 skill-based training programmes in IT, Banking and Finance, Retail and Management were made available, which was scaled up to more than 1000 ‘live’ as well as ‘on-demand’ courses. Within this short period, NIIT.tv has also registered one of the highest customer engagement on the site, as compared to its Indian and International counterparts. The recent launch of Free CBSE Board Exam preparatory live classes for X and XII standard students have been highly appreciated by the users.

Commenting on the first 100 days of successful operations of NIIT.tv, Rahul K Patwardhan, CEO, NIIT Ltd said, “The success of NIIT.tv is a strong reaffirmation of our belief that Technology is fundamental to our growth. The company today, works on a blended delivery model and has over 200 engineers working on education-technology – making NIIT, the largest EdTech company in the country”.

Speaking on this occasion, Udai Singh, Chief Strategy Office NIIT Ltd, said, “We launched NIIT.tv with an aim to make available cutting-edge skill based training to every digitally connected citizen of India, by removing the four constraints of time, space, language and money. Through this partnership with Tutorialspoint.com, we hope to provide our users with more options and content thus providing high quality training material to every digitally connected Indian for free.”

NIIT.tv is aligned to the Digital India and Skill India campaigns announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Mr. Narender Modi earlier this year. The initiative, which was launched on October 6, 2015, seeks to offer very scalable yet a highly economical model, thereby enabling much faster achievement of Skill India goals.

NIIT.tv is a democratic digital learning initiative, backed by NIIT’s strong Educational Technology framework, with an aim to bring high quality training from its classrooms to every digitally connected learner, for free, at any time, place and language of their choice. Students accessing NIIT.tv will be able to access a rich bouquet of high quality, value-added services from NIIT centres in future, e.g. training, professional certification, career counselling, and placement services.

Kerala achieves 100% Primary Education

Primary EducationKerala has become the first state of India to achieve 100 per cent primary education. Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Vice-President of India, has officially declared the 100 per cent primary education status achieved by the state.

PK Abdu Rabb, Education Minister of Kerala, said, “Kerala has become the first state in the country to achieve primary education. This has been achieved through the primary education equivalency drive of the state literacy mission – Athulyam. The equivalency programmes have proved a huge success and the ultimate objective is to achieve total plus-two education in the state.”

In the second phase of this programme, the students who have not received primary education or who failed to get primary education due to several reasons will be recognised and these students will be provided classes to achieve the education. Those aged between 15 and 50 years were beneficiaries of the programme and were identified through family registries prepared by anganwadis under the social justice department.

The state’s ranking as the most literate in the country indicates the significance of education in Kerala. The government, private trusts, or individuals mostly administer the schools and colleges. Each of the school is associated with either the Indian Certificate of secondary Education (ICSE), the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), Kerala State Education Board or the (NIOS).

Industry Pledges Commitment to Skill Development Mission

Corporate India has responded positively to the Government’s call for playing a bigger role in the skill development initiative. The challenges and opportunities of skill development in the country were discussed elaborately at the National Industry Conclave on Skill held in Mumbai on January 12.

While addressing a press conference after the conclave, Venkaiah Naidu, Union Urban Development Minister said, “Skilling the youth is the biggest challenge in India. The number of vocationally trained people in India is only 5.3 per cent, as against 70-90 per cent in countries like Japan, South Korea and Western Europe.”

“In the areas of skill development we have to take care of school dropouts, college dropouts, graduates and post graduates, engineering, vocational skills, agriculture and allied activities, craft and self-help groups,” he said.

The Minister stressed on the importance of imparting right skills for the youth and urged industry leaders to help in establishing at least one skill development centre in each of the districts of India.

He states that the private sector employment and self-employment are the future avenues for the youth, and asked the industrialists to come forward and adopt ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes) across the country.

The Minister informs, “Almost all the corporate leaders pledged their help in bridging the skill gap. The industry requested the government to establish central mechanism of certification of skilled workers. They also demanded establishment of training schools for the trainers.”
