Students and Admissions

Be it any institute or B-School, the admission process involves entrance exam followed by various other processes.

The examination process for admission to business courses is one of the toughest entrance exams in the country. To discern the best talent from the rest, these exams include written tests, group discussions and personal interviews before the most eligible student is finalised for a course.

Under the parameter, the digitalLEARNING magazine has tried to find out how stringent the selection process of students to ensure merit of intake is. Tougher entrance process decides the enrollment of better quality of students. Moreover, under this parameter, we have also tried to find out that how diversified is the student intake of any institute.

Faculty Profile: In an institute, it is very important to develop an environment for the growth of faculty members. The educational context created by faculty behaviours and attitudes has a dramatic effect on student learning and engagement. Institutions where faculty engage students in and out of the classroom and place a high priority on offering students an enriching educational experience.

Under this parameter, we have tried to figure out that what measures have been undertaken by the institute to recruit experienced faculty and also for their training to keep them abreast with latest trends. It is also very important how faculties are encouraged to pursue research and participate in seminars and conferences in India and abroad.

Infrastructure: Infrastructure of a B-School holds importance especially when it comes to providing various facilities to students for education and health purposes. The institute basically turns a second home for students as it helps them identify themselves, shape up their career and have the expert guidance to follow in professional life.

This parameter refers to campus area, built-up area, how well kept the institute’s building is, laboratories, playgrounds, ITenabled classrooms, books and journals in the library, electronic databases, hostels, and pastoral care etc.

Curriculum: Management education plays an essential role in today’s dynamic business environment because of the positive consequences associated with the curriculum and pedagogy practiced in B-Schools. For schools to be competitive, it is very important to consider how much balance is required in loading the curriculum with theories from the western world and those from the emerging world.

Considering the above fact, digitalLEARNING in its B-schools ranking has considered the curriculum as an important parameter. Along with how updated is the curriculum with the best and latest global teaching-learning processes, it is also very important for B-schools to inculcate the skills which are satisfy the industry demands. Innovation in curriculum and in pedagogy is an important factor to keep the students ahead in future.

Industry Interaction: Industry interaction is essential for ensuring that practice meets theory across all functional areas. It goes a long way in enhancing students’ inter-personal skills and making them industry-ready. Such interactions are not always limited to just case discussions or internships. Panels and summits may also be organised by institutes to bring together thinkers, experts and practitioners. It gives them an in-depth knowledge about what they can expect and how they have to groom themselves to achieve success.

The parameter rates B-schools on the industry exposure that they provide its students through live projects, partnership with industries, industry visits of students, internships and guest lectures from industry experts like chairpersons, board of directors, managing directors, etc.

Alumni Network: Today, alumni relations are an important part of an institution’s advancement activities for many reasons. Alumni generate invaluable word-of-mouth marketing in their social and professional networks. Alumni are great role models for current students and are often well placed to offer practical support to students as they start their careers.

Under the parameter, digitalLEARNING magazine has tried to explore that how good is the alumni network of a B-school. Being an ambassador of the institute, how well they are connected with it and also how they are helping the institute to boost its brand value at national and global level. Moreover, the better alumni network of an institute help it to develop greater legacy.

Entrepreneurship: The supporting environment for start-ups in the country is encouraging. More students pursuing business courses to start their ventures instead of taking up steady jobs at any recognised organisation. B-schools are also nurturing an entrepreneurial environment by establishing entrepreneurship cells or incubation centres within the campus. These centres mentor students and support them financially to become a job creator.

Seeking the importance of inculcating entrepreneurial behaviour among the students, B-schools are required to emphasise on it and make students understand the social benefits of entrepreneurship. In this regard digitalLEARNING also consider it as an important parameter that helps in job creation and economic growth in broader terms.

Foreign Collaboration: International collaborations simply means opening windows of exposure, training, and learning in a global environment. For students, it is a coveted opportunity offering the kind of exposure not possible within one’s country or city.

Forming international university partnerships helps students in two key ways: For domestic students, it offers the opportunity to travel internationally via any programme. It also enables universities to better understand the culture of other nations, thereby facilitating their marketing success there. Moreover, pursuing higher education is the preparation it affords for life in the working world. In the globalised society we live in, international collaboration programmes help by providing students the ability to study, work and travel in an international capacity.

Under this parameter, digitalLEARNING explored the steps taken by an institute to promote global outlook among faculty and students through exchange programmes. The parameter also considered the number of MoUs signed with globally renowned Business Schools to make students and faculties aware about the latest trend.

Placements: Campus placement is a defining moment in the life of a student/graduate. It brings to students the opportunity to make practical application of their technical and employable soundness to the representatives of the corporate management of an industry. Ensuring a good placement holds huge significance for any student as it influences his or her career ahead.

Placements can be considered as the most important parameter in ranking a B-school. Good placements become, in a way, a certificate of entire educational institute’s excellence in preparing actually employable students, equipped with the latest industry trends.

This parameter involves the percentage of students of the graduating batch placed, average salary offer and type of companies visiting the campus for campus placement.
