Rajiv Vastupal, the President of the All India Management Association (AIMA) has joined the board of governors of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B). In October 2011, Vastupal took over as the President of AIMA, the apex body of professional management – it was after a gap of 20 years that someone from Gujarat became the president of AIMA.
Vastupal received an invitation to join the Society and Board of Governors of IIM Bangalore from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Prior to his appointment at IIM Bangalore, he was member of the Board of Governors at IIM, Rohtak.
Mukesh Ambani, CMD of Reliance Industries Ltd. heads the Board of Governors of IIM-B as its Chairman. Kris Gopalakrishnan, CEO & MD, Infosys Technologies Ltd.; Dr Narendra Jadhav, Member, Planning Commission, Government of India; Rajendra S. Pawar; Chairman & Co-founder of NIIT Limited and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairperson & MD of Biocon India Ltd are amongst the other members of the board.
Speaking about his new appointment, Rajiv Vastupal, CMD of Rajiv Group said, “I am extremely happy to be a part of the prestigious IIM Bangalore. I shall focus on working cohesively with leaders from India Inc. like Mukesh Ambani and Kris Gopalkrishnan and other members of the board to take the institute to even greater heights.”
A first generation entrepreneur, Rajiv Vastupal has over the last 3 decades set up Rajiv Group from scratch. The Rs 550 crore diversified Rajiv Group is a leading player in polymers, woven sack bags & fabrics, electrical cables & switchgears, light fittings & panel boards.
Apart from being a very successful businessman, Rajiv has been very active in contributing to society and social causes from an early age. In the year 1993, he formed a charitable trust as well as becoming chairman and managing trustee in various family trusts. He is a Trustee of the 106 years old Homeopathic Trust in Ahmedabad since 1986 onwards. Vastupal also served as the President of Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) from 2005-2007.
