An amount of INR 202 has been released by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment as central assistance to the government of Uttar Pradesh under the centrally sponsored scheme of Post-Matric Scholarship to Scheduled Caste (SC)students. Prior to this, an amount of INR 101 crore was released to the State under the same scheme in June this year.
In Uttar Pradesh, the anticipated expenditure during the year 2010-11 under this scheme is about INR 570 crore out of which, the committed liability of the State is about INR 267 crore. Therefore, the due central assistance during the year comes to around INR 303 crore (approximately) which has been released to the State. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the Scheduled Caste students studying at post matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education. The value of scholarship includes maintenance allowance, reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees, study tour charges, thesis typing/printing charges, book allowance forstudents pursuing correspondence courses, additional allowance for students with disabilities and book bank facility for specified courses, for complete duration of the course.
