It is estimated that India accounts for around 6.8% of the international students who are enrolled in the 33-nation strong Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, according to OECD's annual Education at a Glance study, which found in 2008 there were 2.6 million foreign students enrolled in these countries. It was brought forth by the study that 15.2% of the international students in Australia come from India. Similarly, 11.5 % of international students in Australia come from India.
It was also found that for the highest number of Indian students, the US remains as their proffered destination for tertiary education. Not surprisingly, the US also gets the highest number of international students at 18.7 %, followed by the UK at 10 % and Germany at 7.3 %.
