
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokriyal said that the government had doubled funding for the Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) program, which now stands at $ 1.6 million.
The minister spoke at the award ceremony of the ASEAN-India hackathon grand finale.
“The government has a program to tap into the talented pool of academics and entrepreneurs around the world to expand their commitment to higher education to expand our academic resources. We have now doubled the funding allocation for the GIAN program, down to US $ 1 , 6 million. “, Said the minister.

The Global Initiative for University Networks (GIAN) is a catalyst program of the Department of Human Resource Development (now Department of Education) that can have far-reaching implications. Its aim is to broaden and deepen the interface between Indian universities and universally recognized universities of academic importance. Over the next year, the faculties of the best institutions abroad will travel to India, interact and collaborate with their peers and students, and offer specialized courses.
The GIAN program was officially launched on November 30, 2015 at IIT Gandhi Nagar by Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani.
