
In a significant development, the Ministry of Education has announced the appointment of new directors to six prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the nation. The newly appointed directors are set to take charge at IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Dhanbad, IIT-Jodhpur, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Goa, and IIT-BHU, marking an important transition in the leadership of these prestigious institutions.
Manindra Agrawal, a distinguished professor renowned for his contributions in the field of computer science and engineering, has been appointed as the Director of IIT-Kanpur. Agrawal’s illustrious career spans over two decades at the same institute, where he has earned accolades for his expertise in areas such as algorithms, complexity theory, and cryptography.
Sukumar Mishra, previously serving as a professor at IIT-Delhi’s Department of Electrical Engineering, assumes the role of Director at IIT-Dhanbad. Mishra’s leadership comes with a wealth of experience, having served in various academic capacities, including as the Dean of Research and External Engagement at IIT-Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus.

Avinash Agarwal, a seasoned academician from IIT-Kanpur’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, steps into the role of Director at IIT-Jodhpur, further enriching the institution’s academic legacy.
Dr. Devendra Jalihal, an esteemed professor from IIT-Madras specializing in electrical engineering, takes the helm as Director at IIT-Guwahati, bringing with him a wealth of expertise in signal processing and wireless communication.
Dhirendra S Katti, formerly a professor at IIT-Kanpur’s Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, assumes the directorship at IIT-Goa, poised to steer the institute towards new heights of excellence.
Amit Patra, who previously served as the Deputy Director at IIT Kharagpur, now embarks on a new journey as the Director of IIT-BHU. Patra’s extensive academic background and experience within the IIT system position him well to lead the institution forward.
