Govt to set up center for animation, visual effects, gaming

Asserting that ‘Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics’ is a sunrise sector, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced the government will set up a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in cooperation with IIT-Bombay which will offer courses in AVGC.

Addressing the CII Big Picture Summit virtually, the minister said this centre will undertake initiatives to promote entrepreneurship and encourage start-ups in the sector.

“We are a country where the growth of communication technology is phenomenal. This presents a tremendous scope for the entertainment and media industry,” Javadekar said.

“Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) is a sunrise sector and our experts are providing back-end support to top filmmakers of the world,” he said.

It was time that these professionals started doing more of this for our own films so that the use of animation and graphics in Indian films grows manifolds, he added.

Javadekar said the government is setting up a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in cooperation with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay where courses in AVGC will be offered.

The minister also invited the attendees to participate in the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in January 2021.

He announced that India will set up a special pavilion at Cannes in 2022 as the Cannes Film Festival celebrates 75 years.

He also announced that India will host a Global Media and Film Summit next year.

upGrad acquires staffing solutions firm Rekrut India

upGrad, an online higher education company, has acquired recruitment and staffing solutions company Rekrut India.

While the company did not disclose details of the transaction, upGrad said it has acquired 100 per cent stake in Rekrut India.

Given the massive potential of the recruitment sector, which is a Rs 15,000-crore market, upGrad firmly believes an independent business in this sector will provide strong non-linear growth opportunities for the company, it added.

Mumbai-based Rekrut India has a network of over 100 recruiting experts and works closely with many start-ups, MSMEs, and large enterprises.

“Acquisition of Rekrut will turbocharge its career engine by opening up wider placement opportunities and propelling accessibility of upGrad learners to Rekrut”s hiring partners,” a statement said.

upGrad co-founder Ronnie Screwvala said the acquisition of Rekrut is a significant step in making upGrad a career powerhouse for professionals.

“This move is integrally aligned with our company”s vision of powering career success for every member of the global workforce as their trusted lifelong learning partner,” he added.

Rekrut Managing Director Ajay Shah said the upGrad-Rekrut synergy will disrupt the ecosystem and build an end-to-end supply chain of manpower, where Rekrut is the demand partner providing cutting-edge jobs and upGrad will supply the highly skilled, and future-ready talent.

Post the acquisition, Rekrut India, a 100 per cent subsidiary of upGrad, will continue to operate independently with Ajay Shah continuing as the Managing Director, the statement said.

JEE Main 2021 registration commence at jeemain.nic.in

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has commenced the registration process for the Joint Entrance Examinations 2021 from December 16, 2020. Candidates who wish to apply for the JEE Main 2021 entrance examinations can visit the official website of NTA jeemain.nta.nic.in. to complete the online registrations.

According to the dates provided on the official website, the last date for students to complete the JEE Main 2021 registrations is January 17, 2021. The last date to submit the online application fee, however, is January 17, 2020. Candidates applying are first required to complete the registrations by entering the details in the online registration link following which they will be able to complete the JEE Main online application form and submit the application fee.

The JEE Main examinations will be conducted 4 times a year as per the new notification released by the NTA keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the dates provided in the official notification the JEE Main 2021 Session 1 of the examination will be conducted on February 23,24,25 and 26, 2021. The examination will be conducted in two shifts for the B.E./B.Tech. (Paper 1), B.rch (Paper 2A), and B. Planning (Paper 2B).

Pokhriyal: India, UK to setup task force for mutual recognition of degrees

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said India and the UK agreed to set up a joint task force consisting of designated higher education organisations from both the countries to work towards mutual recognition of academic qualifications.

A decision in this regard was taken in a bilateral meeting between Pokhriyal and UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.

“India and the United Kingdom have agreed to set up a joint task force consisting of designated higher education organisations from both the countries to work towards mutual recognition of academic qualifications. This will support India’s agenda for internationalisation of higher education.

“The agreement to work towards mutual recognition of academic qualifications aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating a globally mobile workforce and internationalisation of Indian higher education, as proposed in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 rolled out in July this year,” Pokhriyal said.

Raab hailed India’s National Education Policy 2020 as visionary and said the proposed reforms will open up opportunities for students, the economy and for deeper engagement and collaboration between the two countries.

“This policy will help make the bridge of education between India and the UK stronger. The UK has a lot of respect for the academic rigour coming out of India, and the contribution of the Indian student community is highly valued by our country. The UK has made several changes in its visa and immigration rules to facilitate student mobility,” he said.

The schedule of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2021 has been released today by Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal. The entrance test for admission in premier IITs, NITs will be held from February 23 to 26. The candidates can download the application from the website- jeemain.nta.nic.in. The minister said the engineering entrance will be held in multiple shifts from next year — February, March, April and May.

JEE Main will also have a new exam pattern. The candidates have to attempt 75 questions out of 90 – or 25 out of questions 30 in each section of chemistry, physics and mathematics.

JEE Mains will be held in 13 languages from next year. These include English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Assamese, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Odia and Malayalam, Pokhriyal said.

In the new paper pattern introduced, there will be no negative marking in the 15 alternative questions. The candidates have to attempt 75 questions out of 90 – or 25 out of questions 30 in each section of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

Also JEE Mains will be held four times from next year- February, March, April and May.

With total 4 attempts available to candidates to appear for the JEE Main 2021 exam, NTA will take into account the best of four attempt to prepare the merit list for admissions to engineering entrance exam. Simply put, the JEE Main 2021 All India Rank will be decided on the basis of best score secured by the candidate in any of the four attempts.

Maintenance allowance of Rs 20,000 to be released under PMSSS by AICTE

An Expert Group was constituted by the Prime Minister for enhancing employment opportunity among youths of J&K and Ladakh and formulate job opportunities in public and private sectors.  Subsequently, Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) is being implemented by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

In order to support & empower students for completing online studies, it has been decided to release the installment of Rs. 20,000. The amount shall be released to all the beneficiaries pursuing classes in Odd Semester (July-December 20).

The subsequent installment shall be released once the students shall join physically at their respective institutions based on the verification of continuation certificate issued by the Institution.

The Scheme aims to build the capacities of the youths of J&K and Ladakh by Educating, Enabling and Empowering them to compete in the normal course. Under the Scheme, the youths of J&K and Ladakh are supported by way of scholarship in two parts namely the academic fee & maintenance allowance. The academic fee is paid to the institution where the student is provided admission after on-line counselling process conducted by the AICTE.

BSEB releases revised Intermediate Date sheet 2021

The Bihar School Examination Board has released the revised BSEB Intermediate Date sheet 2021 for the class 12 students. According to the new notification, the class 12 Bihar board exams will be conducted from February 1 to 13, 2021. Candidates can download the Bihar Board class 12 revised schedule on the official website of the board – biharboardonline.bihar.gov.in.

Earlier, the exams were to start on 2nd Feb 2021. The theory exams for BSEB Inter Exam 2021 will be held in two shifts i.e. morning shift starting from 9:45 AM to 12:45 PM; whereas the afternoon shift will start at 1:45 PM and end at 5 PM. Like in previous years, students will be provided additional 15 minutes of time to read the question papers before the start of the exam. For practical exams, the board has confirmed that, the Bihar Board Class 12 Practical Exams will be held from 9th to 18th January 2021.

Pokhriyal: JEE Main 2021 to be conducted in regional languages

To provide relief to huge students, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has announced that the JEE Main examinations will be conducted in regional languages from 2021 in order to make sure that the student will have an advantage due to the language. The minister while announcing the decision stated that it was a long-awaited reform and a special task force has been formed for teaching technical engineering and regional languages.

While speaking to the media, the minister pointed out that the overall quality of the examinations will improve since the students will understand the concepts in their mother tongue which will help them think better.

The union minister took to Twitter to inform the students of the decision of conducting the examinations in the regional language. He stated that English will not be completely eradicated from the education system but instead will only be a medium of instruction along with the other regional languages. He further added that the JEE Main examinations will be conducted in the regional languages so that the students are not at a disadvantage due to the language.

Steps have been taken by the top IITs in the country to promote the teaching in the regional language in the first year. JEE Main exams were previously conducted in English, Hindi, and Gujarati languages across the country.

Official notification is yet to be released for the JEE Main 2021 examinations. The minister recently conducted a seminar addressing the queries of the students and parents.

Prof Pradeep Kumar Mishra appointed as new VC of Jharkhand Technical University

In a major development, Prof Pradeep Kumar Mishra of IIT-BHU, Varanasi has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Jharkhand Technical University. Prof Mishra has been appointed for three years from the date of contribution. Prof Pradeep Kumar Mishra is currently a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT-BHU.

He did a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from IIT, Roorkee, while an MTech with specialization in Petroleum and Coal from IIT Mumbai. He received his doctorate from IIT-BHU and has been working in the institute since 1997.

Professor of Chemical Engineering Prof Pradeep Mishra holds several important responsibilities at IIT-BHU. He is the coordinator of Malaviya Innovation and Entrepreneurship Promotion Center at IIT-BHU, where new ideas and startups are provided with the market and appropriate skills.

Apart from this, recently he has also been appointed as the student headmaster at IIT. Prior to this, he has also done a lot of work on Ganga cleanliness and pollution control.

Prof Mishra received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from IIT-Roorkee in 1986, MTech from IIT-Bombay and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the then IT-BHU in 1995. He has done a lot of research work in the fields of bio energy, bio compatible polymers and nano fiber, bio degradation etc.
