Over 194 universities conducted final year exam: UGC

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released fresh data on the responses it has received from universities on conducting final-year examinations. Around 194 universities have conducted the final year examination, while 366 are planning to.

UGC has said that it has received responses from 755 universities with regard to conduct of examination in response to UGC exam-related guidelines, issued on July 6.

“Out of the 755 Universities, 560 Universities have either conducted the examination or are planning to conduct,” reads a statement issued by UGC.

The July 6 guidelines made it compulsory for all universities to hold exams. However, six states, including Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Delhi are against holding exams and a parents’ organisation, All India Parents Association, is planning to sue the UGC in Supreme Court.

 “Examinations are an integral part of the education system and…measure students’ learning, knowledge, skills and other competencies,” said the UGC in its statement. The performance in examinations contributes to merit, lifelong credibility, wider global acceptability for admissions, scholarships, awards, placements, and better future prospects.”

 Earlier, On July 16, UGC issued a similar statement saying that it has received responses from 640 universities, out of which 182 universities have already conducted the examination in the on-line or off-line mode. While 234 are planning to conduct the examination in online or offline or blended mode in the month of August and September.

Daily wager’s daughter felicitated who stood 8th in Class 12

Despite all odds, a daily wager’s daughter secured the eighth rank in class 12 board examinations in Mizoram.  The 17-year-old Lalvenhimi was felicitated by Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai for her achievement.

Lalvenhimi in the presence of her parents at Raj Bhavan, the governor said the girl’s achievement has become a source of inspiration for students across the country.

The student of Durtlang Higher Secondary School in Aizawl scored 437 out of 500 marks in Arts stream in the examinations conducted by the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE). The results were declared on July 13.

 “I used to wake up at 3 am every day and study till 7 am, and again from 6 pm to 10 pm. Besides, I used to perform household chores and look after my siblings when my parents were away,” Lalvenhimi told.

The 17-year-old, who dreams of becoming a college teacher, will study Bachelor of Arts at the Government Hrangbana College, which has offered her free admission in recognition of her achievement.

CoA postpones NATA first and second test

In the light of Coronavirus epidemic, Council of Architecture (CoA) has postponed the NATA 2020 first and second test. NATA 2020 first attempt is now proposed to be conducted on August 29 while the date for second attempt has not been decided.

The authorities have also notified that the candidates will be given an opportunity to appear for NATA 2020 from their place of residence or they can appear at the council allotted test centre in case they do not have net connectivity or technical resources such as webcam and laptop.

The authorities will soon provide candidates with the option in their respective login accounts to opt for their preference for examination for NATA 2020 i.e. from home or test centre.

Many major changes have been made by the authorities that are not limited to the option to appear for home or centre but also include revised NATA syllabus for part A drawing test and mode of test.

The revised NATA brochure with new test dates and other important instruction, schedule, technical specifications and details regarding new registrations for NATA 2020 will be uploaded soon on the website of the council coa.gov.in as well on NATA website nata.in. COA will reopen the NATA 2020 registration process.

IBM to integrate with CBSE to bring AI to 200 schools

IT major IBM said it is collaborating with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) for Class 11 and 12 students. The new programme will be introduced in over 200 schools across 13 states.

The curriculum is part of CBSE’s Social Empowerment through Work Education and Action (SEWA) programme and will be introduced in Delhi-NCR, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab.

The IBM AI curriculum is structured around a course framework for students consisting of base strands of knowledge (basics, history, applications), skills (design thinking, computational thinking, data fluency, critical thinking) and values (ethical decision making, bias) in AI.

It is further made robust with problem-based learning outcomes and assessment methods for teachers to build foundational skills of AI in students making them not just consumers of AI but creators as well.

To meet CBSE’s requirements for grades 11 and 12, the curriculum was co-developed with Australia’s Macquarie University and Indian implementation partners — Learning Links Foundation and 1M1B.

“The question on the minds of educators and economists alike is how will technology impact jobs moving forward and how can we prepare our students to succeed in an increasingly automated, AI-driven world,” said Sandip Patel, General Manager for IBM India and South Asia.

HRD Minister: JEE Advance eligibility criteria eased

Providing huge relief to students, the HRD minister has said the decision of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) to relax the eligibility criterion for JEE Advanced 2020 qualified candidates for IIT admissions. The decision was taken in a meeting between the JAB representatives and MHRD officials. The relaxation will be applicable only to students who have qualified JEE Advanced 2020 and for IIT admissions.

The boards had also announced their respective results using alternative assessment schemes based on performance in exams already conducted or internal assessment. Considering the partial cancellation of class 12 exams by several Boards, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) decided to relax the class 12 marks criterion for JEE (Advanced) 2020 qualified candidates.

With the new decision, all JEE Advanced 2020 qualified candidates are eligible to apply for admissions to IITs if they have passed their class 12.

All these years, for admissions to the IITs, students need to secure either minimum score of 75% marks in class XII Board exams or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations in addition to qualifying in JEE Advanced. A total of 2,50,000 students who have qualified in JEE Main every year are eligible to apply for the JEE Advanced exam.

Haryana Board Open School HOS 10th result 2020 declared

Board of School Education Haryana, Bhiwani has declared the HOS 10th Result 2020. Haryana 10th Open school result 2020 is available online on results.bseh.org.in.

A total of 16,915 students appeared for the Haryana Board open school exams. Out of which 2,862 students passed while the remaining 14,053 students will have to re-appear.

Due to the lockdown induced because of the coronavirus, only four exams of the Haryana Open Board class 10 could be conducted. In the fresh exams, only 16.92 per cent candidates could clear the exam while in re-appear the pass percentage was 39.65 per cent, as per the data released by the board.

In the fresh HOS 10th exams, a total of 11,545 make candidates had appeared of which 2032 have passed delivering a pass percentage of 17.60 per cent. While among females, only 829 girls out of 5,369 who appeared could pass it delivering a pass percentage of 15.44 per cent.

As many as 18.27 per cent of students from rural area cleared the exam while the pass percentage of urban students is at 13.23 per cent, as per the data shared by the board.

Telangana to commence Engineering academic year from August 17

In the light of Corona pandemic , Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has announced that the academic year for the Engineering Colleges across the state will begin from August 17, 2020. The final decision for reopening, the schools will be taken in the state soon.

The CM said that the academic year of engineering course will commence from August 17 and the government will soon be making a decision on the date for reopening the schools in the state and the issues related to examining the centre guidelines, methods adopted by other states.

The state government is preparing to combine the entrance exam schedule so that the students will not lose their academic year. The government will also take responsibility for the education of orphans girls studying until class 10 in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya for which a policy decision will be announced shortly.

The state government has also decided to follow the UGC and AICTE guidelines issued for conducting the university examinations for the final year students while the other course students will be promoted to the next term without any exams. The chief minister has also announced a long term strategy being prepared and executed to strengthen the government institutes in the state.

The Jharkhand Board 12th Science and Commerce Stream Result 2020 has been declared online on the official website of the Board like every year.

For 2020 session, the Jharkhand Academic Council held the Intermediate Exams for nearly 2.3 lakh students in the month of February. The Exams commenced on 10th February 2020 and concluded on 28th February 2020. While the exams were held prior to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country, the evaluation work and checking process was heavily hampered due to the lockdown announced in March and April 2020. This caused a delay in the declaration of JAC Class 12 Results 2020.

West Bengal Board declares WBCHSE Results 2020; check details

After much delay and wait, West Bengal Board has declared its Class 12 Results. Students can visit the official site to know their WBCHSE Results 2020-wbresults.nic.in. West Bengal Council of Higher Education declared the HS Results 2020 formally in a press meet.

The Pass Percentage for Science, Commerce and Art streams are 98.83pc, 92.22 pc and 88.74 pc respectively.

With over 8 lakh students vying to check their WBCHSE HS Results 2020 online, the official websites may display technical problems, hampering the result checking process.

The WBCHSE has ensured that all the students awaiting their West Bengal 12th result 2020 are able to access the same without any delay. As such, the Council has released the West Bengal Class 12 result 2020 in the online mode as well.

Manipur Board announces Manipur HSE Results 2020; check details

After long and anxious wait, the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur – COHSEM, has declared Manipur HSE Results 2020 for 12th Class students. COHSEM Results 2020 have been declared for all three streams of students i.e. for Arts, Science and Commerce Streams. Students can log onto official result portal-manresults.nic.in to check results.

Due to the currently prevailing condition, the Manipur Board or Council of HSE, Manipur, has decided to publish the COHSEM 12th Results 2020 online only via the official result website manresults.nic.in.
